In addition to some semi fruitful “jams” we’ve been working up demos and in some cases things that sound like whole new songs. A lot of people have been asking about a new album, but right now we are just throwing around ideas and sewing seeds. It’s musical playtime and experiment time.
It’s fun and freeing in a way not to have a concept or agenda like with NATURE. That’s not to say we won’t make a conceptual work, it’s just at a stage where we are figuring out how we work together and to me, the most musical fun you can have is collaboration.
I can say none of us wants to spend five years making one record. That wasn’t all song gestation. Honestly, it was a mess for loads of reasons that I’ve talked about in interviews that are probably on the internet somewhere. NATURE turned out great, and a lot was learned in the making that will hopefully speed up the creation-to-fruition process.
One thing I know for sure is in the Fall or Winter I’d like to release a song or 2 in exclusively to people on our mailing list. If you aren’t on it, you can send an email to band@flotationwalls.com with “SUBSCRIBE” in the subject line. You probably want to send your name and what city and state you live in so we can tell you when we are playing near you.
Here’s a clip from Sesame Street that Phillip Glass composed exclusive music for. I think it’s beautiful.
